Info For UPSI aka W32.USBWorm

I found that this worm is quite annoying. By the way, I got this W32.USBWorm info from Suwari.

This worm spreads through USB drives. Along with firefox, it also prevents you opening Orkut and Youtube. It gives the alert “Orkut\youtube is banned you fool” and closes the window immediately. For firefox, it gives the alert “Use IE you dope” and closes the Firefox window. It also plays a .wav file (which sounds as “muhahaha!!) whenever the alerts pop-up..Very clever version.

How it works?
• It creates a folder with name "heap41a" in C drive that will be disguised as system folder with hidden attributes enabled and copies all its contents in that heap41a folder.
• The running process that is responsible for this is svchost.exe and it will be spawned under user name.
• It will make an entry into registry so that it will be started automatically every time the system gets rebooted.

Contents of “heap41a” folder
• Svchost.exe – This is the main executing program
• Script1.txt – It contains the script for displaying messages and playing sound file depending upon application invoked.
• Std.txt – It is responsible for making registry entries and running svchost.exe.
• Reproduce.txt – It is responsible for reproducing the directory structure and registry entries every time the system reboots or if any files or entries missing.
• Along with these, there will be one audio file and one drive list text which contains by default all alphabets from A…Z

How to remove this worm?
• Terminate svchost process. Remember there will be more than one svchost processes. You have to delete the one which was spawned under user name.
• Delete the heap41a folder from your system. It will be hidden. Use advanced search options to find it.
• Remove the following registry entry.
HKLM\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [winlogon] C:\heap41a\svchost.exe
• It can also be removed using freeware tool “hijackthis” which can be downloaded from here http://filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/

PS: Major antivirus applications failed to detect this including Norton 360. I will write detail process of removing this worm later if I got time..

Google / Blogger Error

Yesterday night, when I tried to view my blog then I got this message, "502 internal error" or something like that. I thought my blog has been blocked. But when I checked other blogspot's site, they are all the same.

Maybe blogspot is under maintenance or server is kind of busy because after that I got the message like " try again in 30 seconds"...I tried but the result is still the same. Only after few hours then I access all blogspot's site.

Migrating Avira Free Edition To Premium?

When I open my antivirus program, I found that my last update of virus definition is 11/8/2007. Huhuhu..didn't realize it . What can I say is, may be I'm lucky because my laptop didn't infected by any virus or spyware either from pendrive or internet.

So, today I'm going to update my virus definition to prevent any malicious code or trojan infect my lappy. Since my college got internet connection so I'm able to use auto-update function. Skins Interface For VLC

VLC has become my favorite player, but still not the perfect media player. It is because some of my media need to be played using RealPlayer since VLC does not support this type of media files. I'm hoping that the future version of VLC will support rm and rmvb files.

For those who do not have the latest VLC player, you can download at VideoLan/VLC.

VLC also have skins interface which not many of us know about it. The skin just like other player like Winamp or Media Player. You can download them all at VLC skins page. Some of the skins screenshot :-

After that go to Preferences > Interfaces > Main Interfaces...Interface Module : Skinnable Interface and for Extra Module, check Skinnable Interface, then SAVE...

This Another Fake Phishing Paypal Email ?

As usual in the morning I open up my Firefox browser, googling some news like Sports or anime and checking incoming mail messages in my Gmail account.

While checking, one email that make me surprised appeared in my inbox. The author is Paypal and the title is "Notification Of Limited Access". Hrmm, as I remember I didn't do anything that can cause Paypal a trouble.

While thinking of my action for the last couple days, then I suddenly remember about Paypal phishing that I read from Eches's Blog.Thanks to Eches. Could it be this is another one of fake phishing Paypal email ?

So I opened up the email to read the rest of the messages. Then the below address is given, definitely just like the real one.
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_login-run

BUT, when I run a mouse over on the given address link then I found that the real address is :-

http://220.232.130.49/~paypal/login

That's for sure it's not a paypal. Just for testing I go to my browser, typing the address of
http://220.232.130.49/ . Then the screen appreared, notifying that "Apache is working on your cPanel and WHM server". WTH is this.....

So, have you got the same message just like me ?

What's Your Favorite Image Hosting ?
If you would like to show to your friend a picture of yours, where you usually store the image/picture ?
In other words, what's your favorite image hosting site? Nowadays, there are a lot of image hosting offering a lot of advantages and some of them only be able to hold for month, then the site's gone or under maintenance.

So, it is important to choose the right image hosting if you want to keep your picture for quite a long time, not just for a week. During surfing I found a lot of image hosting, some of them offering bigger storage, some of them don't, some of them need to be registered in order to be able to upload the picture and some of them don't. And some of them also providing online photo/picture management and photo sharing. That's totally cool isn't it ?

So, which one is exactly the best ? If you ask me, I still do not know the best answer. What can I give you is a list of good image hosting which I've always visiting and uploading my pictures. Here's the list and a bit info about them.

Wireless Security - WLAN Encryption & Data Integrity Protocols

This week, in Wireless Security lecture I learn a lot of new things and terms. There's few terms that I never heard before like TKIP and CCMP.

I learn about 802.11 standard and how vulnerable it is, WPA which is stand for Wi-Fi Protected Access, the enhancement of 802.11 which is 802.11i and many more. 802.11i provide more protection than WPA and it using new data encryption & data integrity methods also new authentication protocol called Extensible Authentication Protocol(AEP).

I also learn the 3 encryption protocols that 802.11 standard have. They are WEP that using RC4 algorithm, TKIP that using key mixing, IV enhancement and hash also CCMP which is based on AES data encryption.

Among the terms that is repeatedly saying by my lecturer are WEP, WPA, TKIP, CCMP, RSN,TSN, IV, IEEE 802.11, EAP, FMS and WPA2.

First of all, I'm sorry that I do not have much time to post because I've been busy with assignments. Today, I got free time since all of my class has been canceled.

Today's tip is "How To Subscribe to a Feed Using FeedDemon",the most popular Windows RSS reader.FeedDemon has become my favorite since it is easy-to-use interface and you can completely customize the way feeds are organized and displayed. If you do not have FeedDemon, you can download it here.

Basically, subscribing using FeedDemon or other RSS reader is all the same. Here's the step:-

1) FeedDemon and look for "Subscribe" and click on it.

2) Follow the Subscribe Wizard, either you want to enter the address of the feed or website or create a
keyword search feed.
3) Normally we choose to enter the URL of the feed then click Next.

4) For example you want to subscribe to my feed which is http://feeds.feedburner.com/TweakEverythingForMaximumPerformance
5) Remember to "check" download and verify the feed before subscribing under feed's URL address.

6) Then you have to enter the Name of the Feed like Cybersix - Tweak_Everything or something like
that.
7) Just follow the rest of the instruction then you're done.
