Top Open Source Software for Windows
Top Open Source Software for Windows
I've been using Open Source software quite long since they are quite good and available for free. So I do not need to find any crack for the softwares. I think it is good, once in a while to expose Windows user on what Open Source Software(commonly used in Linux) could offer them on alternative software to the proprietary ones for daily computer usage.
Top Open Source Software for Windows :-
1) Mozilla Firefox

-The most powerful web browser. The best thing about Firefox is the availability of the plugins, pop-up blocking, themes, and extensions, especially the one that increase my productivity of being a webmaster/blogger.
2) GIMP
- Before this,I'm using only Photoshop as my graphic editor. Now I got both, and the function in GIMP is as the same in the Photoshop. Besides, it require less RAM usage than Photoshop.
3) VLC Media Player
-This player has become my primary video player since it can play various kind of format and its user interface is very simple and easy to use. I hope, in the future release, VLC be able to play rm/rmvb format as well.
Other good player, Mplayer.
4) Paint.Net
-The original Paint in Windows can only do a basic image editing. But Paint.Net is like the future of original paint, act as an image editing and photo manipulation. It features an intuitive and innovative user interface with support for layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools.
5) OpenOffice.Org
-Big, full featured suite of tools for word processing and spreadsheets. Compatible with and a free replacement for Microsoft Word documents. Also supports OpenDocument Format.
6) FileZilla
-A fast and reliable FTP client and server with lots of useful features and an intuitive interface.
7) Azureus
-Implements the BitTorrent protocol using java and comes bundled with many features : Multiple torrent downloads, Upload and download speed limiting, both globally and per torrent, Advanced seeding rules, Adjustable disk cache, Only uses one port for all the torrents, UPnP sets the forward on your router and moreā¦
8) ClamWin
-Open Source Anti-Virus. Very good at detecting viruses. Can be plugged into hMailServer for e-mail protection LIMITATION: Real Time scanning not implemented yet
9) 7-Zip

- A file archiver and compressor. A good replacement for WinZip or WinRAR.
10) FeedReader
-Is a news aggregation solution that provides robust, state-of-the-art features in an intuitive, user-friendly environment. FeedBurner offers advanced, cutting-edge capabilities, including the most comprehensive podcasting support available today, as well as unique smart feed technology that puts the information you need right at your fingertips.
11) Mozilla Thunderbird
